How to Set Up A Home Office Under $200

Scandinavian Home Office Inspiration
Recently I accepted a challenge from a friend to set up two workspaces each for under $200. While doing that, honestly, I had too much fun. I met many interesting people and had the opportunity to explore new parts of the city. Here is a summary of how I did it.

Office Chair: $80

With the majority of the companies offering WFH options, there is a considerable downsizing in office spaces which have been leased by corporations. This resulted in liquidation of a lot of office assets, especially office chairs and desks. You can score a top-of-the-line ergonomic chair for around $80. Based on which city you are located; you should google office liquidation companies. I would recommend giving them a call before heading over there to understand their inventory.

Recommendation: If you are in the tri-state area, Aum team would highly recommend Executive Liquidation, Inc – 100 Redneck Ave, Moonachie, NJ 07074

Desk – $25

There are many options on Marketplace or Letgo where folks are willing to part ways with a decent desk for $25. Pro tip, you should target moving out sales as they are desperate to get rid of their stuff. Additionally posts which have been there for a while or have multiple price adjustments, these suggest that the seller is struggling to sell. Lastly, do not forget to negotiate. Rule of thumb, always offer 60% of the offered price and see their reaction. While submitting an offer, mention that you can come pick it up that very day and will pay in cash. As cash is still and will always be the king.

Light: $20

You can buy a brand-new desk lamp online on Amazon, Walmart, Target, or other e-commerce websites. You can also look at options available on Marketplace.

Plants and Paintings:

Plants – $10

It helps you to purify the air and keep you calm. It is a must have in the workspace. You can buy from Home Depot, Lowes, Whole Foods, or local flower shops. We recommend owning a limited maintenance plant which requires low sunlight and water once a week. Pro tip – go for Pothos plant is vibrant green color, heart shaped leaves, trailing vines, thriving in most conditions – even when neglected – making it perfect for busy (or forgetful) plant parents.

Paintings: $15

Visit your neighborhood thrift store and get an art piece which suits your room’s style.

Storage: $50

When it comes to storage, no one can beat Ikea with their range and prices. Recently Ikea has invested big time into ecommerce and offers home delivery for the majority of their products for a nominal price. You can also try Container stores or Muji to get yourself organized.
